Kevin Sherwood

Kevin Sherwood is a visual effects producer and Head of Production at Wētā FX. He joined Wētā in 2002 and has since become a central figure in producing many of the company’s high-profile feature films and immersive projects.

Early in his career, Sherwood worked at Industrial Light & Magic’s commercial division and then at Rhythm & Hues before coming to Wētā, where he initially contributed to pipeline management, camera and miniature departments, and coding efforts. His first assignment at Wētā was on The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and over time, he became a producer on the Hobbit trilogy (2011–13), overseeing Wētā’s involvement in previsualization, on-set VFX supervision, sequence management, budgeting, and delivery.

Sherwood’s credits include working on The BFG (2016) and being present on set during the shoot of Alita: Battle Angel(2019), where he represented Wētā as the primary liaison with the filmmakers and managed the visual effects deliverables. He also produced Wētā’s first “ride” project, King Kong 360 3-D (2010), which won a Visual Effects Society Award. He has also overseen Wētā’s contributions to tentpole films like Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021).

Under Sherwood’s leadership, Wētā’s teams tackle every stage of the VFX pipeline, from early concept and previs through shot execution and post. He is ultimately accountable for budgets, schedules, and meeting deliverables while maintaining creative collaboration between Wētā and its clients. Over his tenure, Sherwood has navigated the evolution of visual effects technologies, including the shift from models and miniatures toward fully computer-generated environments and performance capture workflows.
